ASCOT United have maintained their interest in two competitions in the past week.

The Yellaman followed up their 3-1 win over Thatcham Town in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup on Tuesday of last week by defeating Thame Rangers 2-1 in the Bluefin Sports Hellenic League Cup on Saturday.

And they have gone into October top of the Hellenic League placings, albeit having played more games than their nearest challengers.

Defeating last season’s FA Vase winners and Hellenic League champions was a particularly notable scalp for the new-look Ascot side who are beginning to shape well under the direction of manager Jamie Tompkins (pictured right).

The signing of Nathan Minhas has proved a real coup for him. The young striker is enjoying a sensational season, as he again demonstrated with two outstanding goals in as many minutes just before half-time against the Kingfishers.

Teenager Geoff Kibaki added the other in the first half with Gareth Thomas pulling one back three minutes into the second half. Tompkins commented: “It was a very good performance, but we know the boys have got that in them as they are a talented bunch.”

Ascot made a number of changes for the League Cup tie at Division One East leaders Thame Rangers.

Again, their goals came in the first half, from Kibaki after 19 minutes and nine minutes the winger turned provider, his right-wing cross being turned home by Samir Regragui, who was left unmarked at the far post.

Despite losing two players through injury, Thame pulled a goal back through Pat Buston, whose effort went in off the crossbar.

Next up for the Yellamen is a short trip to Windsor this Saturday (3pm).

Wokingham & Emmbrook also made progress in the Hellenic Cup, defeating New College Swindon 4-1 at Larges Lane.

The Sumas squandered a number of chances before Sam Lawrence headed home a well-placed cross from Connor Holland to make it 1-0 at half-time.

The Division One West tailenders brought the scores level, but George Marsh restored the home side’s lead following good work by Lawrence and Holland and substitute Ellis Day lobbed in the third with Lawrence blasting home the fourth from close to 30 yards.

Jake White struck twice as Wokingham & Emmbrook beat Woodley United 3-1 in their Division One Subsidiary Cup tie at Rivermoor Stadium on Monday.

He opened the scoring in the first half with only the crossbar denying the hosts an equaliser before half-time.

Connor Holland doubled the Sumas lead early in the second period, only for Kai Parton-Edey to quickly pull one back.

But White’s second goal of the evening made the game safe for the visitors.

The Sumas are away to Wrightchoice & Unity at Cintra Park, Reading, in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy on Saturday (3pm) and next Tuesday (7.45pm) travel to AFC Aldermaston for a Hellenic Division One Subsidiary Cup tie.

Sandhurst Town shared the Combined Counties League Division One points with Kensington Borough, drawing 3-3 at Leatherhead after being 3-1 down with Charlie Oakley grabbing a late equaliser from the spot. It was his second goal of the game, the other coming from an own goal.

The Fizzers, 12th in the table, are home to fourth-placed Dorking Wanderers Reserves this Saturday (3pm).

Fourteenth-placed Eversley& California put up a spirited performance before being edged out 2-1 by leaders Farnham Town.

The visitors took a 66th-minute lead with a scrambled goal from Sean Evans, but the Boars deservedly drew level through Marcus Guest’s 76th-minute header.

However, they were not for long with Elliot Cardona scoring Farnham’s second to help them secure their eighth victory in 10 games.

Eversley were due to host Staines Lammas in the Southern Combination Cup and next Tuesday visit Bagshot in a league fixture (3pm).
