EAST Berkshire GC’s Laura Webb has won the Women’s Senior Open Championship for the second time in three years.

She overcame a strong international field in tough conditions at the Craighead course in Scotland to win by impressive nine shots.

Having previously won at Caldy in 2016, she led by three shots after an opening round course record 67, recording one eagle and five birdies with two dropped shots on the 14th and 17th.

The second round was postponed because of Storm Ali and when play resumed on the third day, Webb shot a closing 73 to finish four-under-par 140.

Runner-up on 149 was England’s Catherine Rawthore who won the Championship at Royal Dornoch in 2014.

“It was really tough going and putting was particularly difficult,” said Webb, who has won the Irish girls, ladies and senior titles and has also played for her country at all three levels.

“It may seem that I had a comfortable lead, but you can never be too far ahead in these conditions. I am really delighted to win again and will be back to defend at Royal St David’s.”

Back at East Berks, the September Midweek Stableford was won by Neil Jopling (5hcp) on 37 points with Mark Turner (14hcp) second on countback from Damien Hammond (5hcp), both returning 36 points.

The club’s ladies’ section played the Noreen Nash Stableford with Division 1 being won by Donna Hunt (9hcp) who returned 39 points to win by one point from Patricia Bidston (21hcp). Division Two went to Elaine Lumdsen (38hcp) with 33 points on countback from Jayne Mattey (33hcp).

East Berks held their summer knock-out finals day.
