FINALS WEEKEND

Wokingham Bowling Club celebrated their 2018 CLUB FINALS WEEKEND. The weekend started on the Friday with two finals and then all day Saturday and Sunday. We were blessed with lovely weather and this season overall, has been wonderful for the game of bowls. There were some outstanding matches played over the weekend.

The winners and runners up are listed below but one or two highlights should be mentioned.

On the Friday afternoon in the first final, we saw a nail-biting contest to see who won the Mixed Pairs competition. Marie and David Fielding played Teresa and Martin O'Connor in a gripping final which resulted in a win for Teresa and Martin by 24 shots to 23. On Saturday morning, there was an exciting contest in the Ladies Unbadged Singles where Anne-Marie Murray came through to win by 21 shots to 19 against Jenni MacGregor. Not for the fainthearted.... In the Mens Seniors Singles, there was a first trophy for Terry Oakes who defeated the champion from last year, Bob Thompson by 21 shots to 14. Sunday afternoon saw the Mens and Ladies Championships decided. In the Mens Final, Alan Symondson came up against Adie Chipper, both excellent bowlers. Symondson got into his game the quicker of the two and was winning well, 12 shots to 6 up and then 15 shots to 10 up but Chipper came back with nine shots in three ends and singles to give him the title for 2018 as Mens Champion, winning the match by 21 shots to 18. In the Ladies Final, Teresa O'Connor, in her fifth final of the weekend and having won the other four, came up against the very experienced Lilian Holliday. O'Connor got off to a good start but Holliday with some excellent bowling came through and was crowned Ladies Champion for 2018, winning the match by 21 shots to 14.

Just like "Bargain Hunt", there are no losers, just winners and runners up. To all, congratulations on reaching the finals and to all those helpers at the club who make all of this happen, a wonderful thank you.
