BINFIELD manager Roger Herridge said his decision to sign two Bracknell Town players on dual registration forms was fully justified following the 3-0 FA Cup win over Buckland Athletic on Saturday, writes Dave Wright.

He brought in Robins skipper Dave Hancock and midfielder Jamie McClurg, and both played well as the Moles secured a home second qualifying round tie against Southern League side Cirencester on Saturday, September 22.

“We were a bit brave with our team selection, but sometimes you have to make tough decisions,” said Herridge, who was left fuming with his side following their 5-2 home defeat by Reading City the previous Monday.

“Both Dave and Jamie were top drawer. It probably wasn’t easy for them to come in, as they would be thinking that I had left out players so they could play. But those decisions were fully justified, based on our second-half performance against Reading City.

“This was a massive game for us as FA Cup ties don’t come around very often for us.

“There were some disappointed players on my bench who didn’t get on, but it is up to them to prove they are worthy of a starting position in the team. Being average doesn’t win you games, and too many players were average last Monday and I left average players out.

“Everyone today (Saturday) was really good and being really good gets you results.”

Neither Hancock nor McClurg played in Monday’s 3-1 Hellenic League win over Brackley Town Saints as Herridge reverted to his regular squad although Bracknell midfielder Carl Withers was on the bench.

It was a good preparation for this Saturday’s FA Vase tie away to Stoneham (3pm).
