JOHN Amor beat a field of 90 at East Berkshire to win the Tupling Tankard, an 18-hole competition for men and women.

The winner is the player who proceeds furthest around the course. Those with shots left play on down the 19th.

John Amor (15hcp) had eight left with his final shot finishing 6.54 metres from the hole on the second green (20th hole).

Runner up was David Turner (11hcp) who finished eight metres fom the hole on the 19th hole with third place going to David Carpenter (22hcp) who finished 8.58 metres short.

There was a field of 28 pairs for the Freddie Gray Mixed Foursomes Cup, a competition in honour of the club secretary who served from 1964 to 1986.

The silverware was won by Ricard Skilton and Sally Taylor with nett 70, with Lin Dyne and Michael Leith runners-up with nett 71. Mike and Sue Nash finished third with a nett 73.

East Berks staged an intermediate stableford competition with Mikaela Gamble (8hcp) taking the honours on 42 points from runner-up Daniel Brind (16hcp) with 35.

The midweek stableford was won by Antony Harrison (28hcp) on 40 points, one more than Adrian Thumwood (18hcp), who claimed the runners-up spot on countback from Alfie Nevelle (5hcp).
