WOKINGHAM Oakapples are celebrating after winning the Thames Valley Ladies League Division Three title.

The team won 11 of their 14 matches to clinch the championship from rivals Palmer Park.

Needing six point from their final game to finish top, the Oakapples won all three rinks for a 10-point haul to claim the title and secure promotion.

The victorious Oakapples squad featured Anne-Marie Murray, Barbara Woolley, Joy Deeves, Sue Thomson, Cyndy Price-Finnie, Jenni MacGregor, Margaret Argent, Margaret Allen, Jean Balkwell, Ann Taylor, Gen Hughes, Marie Fielding and Janette Kane.

Bracknell have the advantage over Wokingham in the annual Roger Medcalf Cup. They won the first leg 77-64 and take a 13-shot lead into the second leg at Bracknell.

The competition has been held each year since 2010 in honour of Bracknell fixtures secretary, Roger Medcalf.

Wokingham lost 123-87 at Palmer Park in a mixed friendly, despite a top triple of David Smith (skip), Dave Fielding and Gen Hughes, winning by 10 shots.

Wokingham Ladies suffered a 43-34 defeat at Maiden Erlegh.

Wokingham Ladies won 39-33 at Suttons with a top triple of Teresa O’Connor (skip), Marie Fielding and Ann Alabaster, winning by 11 shots.

  • SUNNINGDALE Bowling Club travelled to Bracknell for the second leg of the Cyril Hughes Cup with a 20 shot advantage from the first leg.

Although Bracknell regained some shots, Sunningdale retained the Cup by 101-84 overall with a highest scoring rink of Ray Callaghan, Gareth Edwards and Derek Cooper (skip).

Sunningdale Ladies beat Great Hollands 67-31 in a friendly with a highest scoring rink of Sandra Ellis, Janet Spencer and Marjorie Walklett (skip).

Sunningdale held its club finals over the Bank Holiday when a rain-soaked green on Sunday meant that several games were held over until Monday.

Derek Cooper won the men’s championship, while Janet Spencer took the ladies honours.
