BRACKNELL Athletics Club finished third in their last Southern Athletic League Division One fixture of the summer.

The result sees Bracknell finish fifth overall after another successful season.

Bracknell won the men’s section in their final fixture at Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow with 99 points ahead of Blackheath (97), WSEH (91) and Milton Keynes (72).

Bracknell’s man of the match was Under 20 Matthew Buckner, who in personal best times, achieved the sprint double to win the 100m and 200m senior races.

Robert Mungham took maximum points in the A string hammer and the B string shot.

Mungham’s partner in the shot, Charlie Ashdown-Taylor, came second in the senior event, second in the A string pole vault with a new personal best (pb) and another second in the senior discus.

Peter Marlow won the long jump with a new pb while partner Robbie Wilde was second in the senior event.

Sam Russell took second in the senior javelin with a pb.

Another winning double was achieved by Oli Lum and youth Oliver Hall in the 1500m races, Lum with a season’s best time.

The final individual win on the track came in the 2,000m steeplechase where Matthew Seddon, making his first club appearance since August 2015, stormed to victory by 18 seconds.

Also returning to Bracknell was Jamie Ashton, who last raced in June 2012. Although injured for most of the season, Ashton ran Bracknell’s fastest time since April 2014.

Peter Marlow and youth Jonny Parker took double runner up places in the 110m high hurdles.

In the ladies section, there were wins for Emma Morris in the junior 400m, Lottie Ambridge in the B string 800m and Connie McCafferty in the junior javelin.

Rachel McClay came second in the senior 400m, as did Rebecca Berger-North in the A string 3,000m.

Elena Carey and Abbie Jones both finished runners up in the 2,000m steeplechase.

Bracknell won two of the relays. The ladies were unbeatable in the 4x400m, winning by six seconds.

Then in the short sprint relay Bracknell again beat Blackheath to the line in 42.70 secs – just one tenth of a second off the 4x100m club record, which has stood since 1978.
