MANAGER Roger Herridge is hoping his poor record in FA Cup ties will continue to improve this weekend, writes Dave Wright.

He has enjoyed very little luck in previous seasons, so was pleased to see his Moles beat Farnham 2-1 in their opening tie earlier this month, despite having skipper James Knight sent off.

And he is now looking for Binfield to climb their next hurdle – a tough home preliminary-round tie against Brockenhurst at Hill Farm Lane on Saturday (3pm).

They will go into the game with their confidence boosted by a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Holmer Green, although it needed a very late goal from Ian Davies to secure all three points.

“We made hard work of it,” added Herridge. “We got behind their defence at regular intervals, but were let down by a poor final ball or wayward finishing. We will need to show more quality in front of goal against Brockenhurst.”

They were also unlucky against Hellenic League newcomers Holmer Green, with Sean Moore hitting the post from close range following a great run and cross from Khalid Senussi.

Danny Horscroft was also out of luck, sending three efforts high and wide from good positions.

In a bid to break down what he described as “dogged opponents”, Herridge sent on his three substitutes in the space of seven minutes in the second half.

Jemel Johnson, Eddie Lee and Josh Sapsed added pace to the attacks and they eventually created the opening for Davies to snatch the winner in stoppage time.

The impact they made will give Herridge more selections problems ahead of the FA Cup clash against Wessex League Premier Division side Brockenhurst.
