GEORGE Evans revealed he will cherish his play-off final memories of Reading FC for ever after completing a switch to Championship rivals Derby County.

The 23-year-old moved to Frank Lampard’s Rams just days before they beat Royals at Madejski Stadium on Friday night.

Evans did not feature on the night and was not named in Lampard’s squad but he did travel back to Berkshire with his new teammates.

And speaking after Rams’ last-gasp win, Evans told the Reading Chronicle exclusively: “It’s a good opportunity for me and I’m really excited to starting my new chapter here.

“I had a fantastic time at Reading, I had two-and-a-half great years and of course we had the Wembley experience. It’s a fantastic football club with fantastic people. I owe a lot to them and it was great to be here.

“I made some really good friends in Reading, it’s a great football club and I’m sad to leave all them behind but like I said I’m really delighted to begin my new chapter with Derby.”

Evans was on the verge of a move to league one side Sunderland but pulled out when he heard of Derby’s interest.

He worked with England and Chelsea legend Lampard during his time at Manchester City and admitted he was thrilled to join up with him once again.

“To be able to learn from the best every day is a great opportunity for me,” beamed Evans.

“I’m young and I’m still learning so there’s nobody better to be coached from.

Addressing the Reading FC fans, he concluded: “I’d like to thank them for everything they’ve done for me since I joined.

“They’ve been great with me since day one and I wish them all the best for this season.”
