BINFIELD consolidated their position at the top of Thames Valley League Division 4a by outplaying Sulhamstead & Ufton in a short game.

They shot out their hosts for just 40 runs in 15.1 overs with Matt Hayman recording sensational figures of 7-8, while Duncan Wessels took the other three wickets for 31.

Sully skipper Aaron Briggs was the only player to reach double figures after making 10, while three players recorded ducks including both openers, Jason Doole and Marc Thompson.

Some sharp fielding – which included four catches by Thomas Andrews – also helped Binfield stifle their opponents.

Binfield lost three early wickets to leave them 18-3 at one stage. But Chris Morgan (18no) and Shaun Miller (6no) saw them reach their target off the second ball of the 10th over, finishing 41-3.

The Villagers remain 27 points clear of Boyne Hill 2nds, who defeated Theale & Tilehurst by five wickets.

In Division 6b, second-in-the-table Binfield 2nds defeated Bradfield by five wickets.

Ben Hardy (74) and Jon Stebbings (72) helped Bradfield to reach 244-6 from their 52 overs, Joe Scully (2-33) the pick of the Binfield attack.

Crucial knocks from Steve Jeffrey (78), Paul Edgington (67no) and Will Sennett (55) saw Binfield home on 246-5 from 40 overs.

Binfield 3rds had the best of a draw away to Crowthorne & Crown Wood 3rds in Berkshire League Division Three.

They scored 213 with Dan Furkins remaining unbeaten on 76, Chris Bullett then claimed 5-24 off 9.2 overs in the home side’s reply of 134-7 which included a half century for Crows’ Venkata Adapa (55), to add to his 3-34 with the ball.
