PINEWOOD Gymnastic Club duo Lucie Colebeck and William Cowen are celebrating after winning gold medals with Great Britain at the European Tumbling Championships.

Colebeck helped the GB women’s senior squad claim the gold in the team event in Baku, Azerbaijan recently.

She then added another gold to her collection with victory in the individual final to become senior European women’s tumbling champion.

The 21-year-old executed an outstanding routine in the team final consisting of a double straight transition with a double twisting double straight end skill, giving her the highest individual score of 36.00.

Allied to some brilliant performances from team-mates Rachel Davies, Shanice Davidson and Megan Kealy, GB finished with a score of 105.20 to finish in first place ahead of Russia (103.50) and France (101.00).

Colebeck was in sixth place after the first round of routines in the individual final and had it all to do.

The Binfield-based star kept her composure and performed a second winning run to take her into first place.

After a nailbiting wait for the rest of the competitors to finish, Colebeck was finally crowned European champion for her second gold medal of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Cowen helped GB retain their junior boys title in his first taste of the European championships.

Cowen, from Woodley, performed a routine with a very high difficulty consisting of a double straight transition though to a double twisting double somersault to help the team land the gold medal ahead of Russia and Ukraine.

He also finished a highly respectable 10th in the individual qualifiers.

Both Colebeck and Cowen are coached by Pinewood’s highly-successful Vladimir Podobin.
