A MAGNIFICENT first-half performance helped Sandhurst Town stun Hellenic League Division One East title-chasers Penn & Tylers Green 3-2 on Saturday.
Third-placed Penn had lost just one of their previous 14 league games before arriving at Bottom Meadow, but Conor Harlowe gave Sandhurst a dream start when his header put them 1-0 up after just two minutes.
The prolific Charlie Oakley doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 27th minute, and the Fizzers’ hotshot made it 3-0 with his 22nd goal in just 20 appearances this season on 36 minutes.
Penn & Tylers Green rallied in the second half, though, and they cut the deficit on the hour-mark thanks to a Danny Jordan penalty.
And the visitors turned up the pressure even more just four minutes later, Jordan converting another spot-kick to reduce the arrears to 3-2.
However, Sandhurst showed all their battling qualities to hang on and grind out a superb result which keeps them sixth in the table but with games in hand on all five sides above them.
Sandhurst Town welcome fifth-placed Wokingham & Emmbrook – who were without a fixture last weekend – to Bottom Meadow this Saturday (3pm).
