BINFIELD FC manager Roger Herridge is keeping himself extra busy in the transfer market, writes Dave Wright.

Three players – Nick Bateman, James Charlton and Tom Williams – have joined him from his former club, Wokingham & Emmbrook.

And he has also brought in ex-Bracknell Town utility player Jake White from Flackwell Heath, goalkeeper Garry Aulsberry from Bracknell and Ross Seldon from Ascot United.

Midfielder Jamie Connor has returned to the club from Thame United.

More signings are expected to be made in the next week or two.

There have, however, been a number of outgoings, with Josh Howell and Jemel Johnson both switching to Thatcham Town, while keeper Nathan Silver, wanted by Highmoor Ibis, has also left.

But the bulk of last season’s squad have re-signed, including midfielder James Knight, who missed only one match and that was due to suspension, and captain Alex Luis, whose next competitive game will be his 100th for the Moles.

Jack Broome, Danny Horscroft, Alex Walton, Michael Walton and Mark O’Connnell are among those who have also agreed to stay at Hill Farm Lane.

Binfield beat Badshot Lea 2-1 in their first pre-season friendly last Saturday with Williams notching both goals.

They are home to Chalfont St Peter this Saturday (3pm) and then go to Holyport next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Binfield have been drawn at home to North Greenford United in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup on Saturday, August 6.

United, having finished bottom of the Southern League Central Division by some distance last season, were originally relegated to the Hellenic League. But the club made a successful appeal against that placement to the FA and will instead be playing in the Combined Counties Premier League.

The winners will be home to Kidlington, last season’s Hellenic League champions who now members of the Southern League Central Division.

Herridge’s men have been drawn away to South Midlands League club Buckingham Athletic in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase on September 10 with the winners away to Hook Norton or Bracknell two weeks later.

Wokingham & Emmbrook, relegated from the Premier Division back to Division 1 East of the Hellenic League, have signed University of Reading-educated Brazilian Luccas Ferrette, previously at Farnborough Town, and forward James Murphy, who steps up from Reading Sunday League side Richfield Rovers.

Sumas’s new boss Clive McNelly is bringing in other players to join many of last season’s squad, with skipper Will Day among those to have re-signed.

Last weekend they drew 4-4 with South Midlands League side Cockfosters in a friendly at Cantley Park with Jake Wheeler scoring twice after they had trailed 4-1 at half-time.

Wokingham are away to Berkshire Sports this Saturday (3pm).

Ascot United, who face a major rebuilding programme following the departure of several players, have been drawn at home to Milton United in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup with the winners hosting Didcot Town in the following round.

Having finished fourth in the Hellenic League last season, the Yellamen received a bye to the first round proper of the FA Vase.

Ascot’s only official comment so far on the large number of departures came via a message on twitter, which said: “We would like to say best wishes and a thank you to the players who have moved this pre-season.”
