CONNOR Banks struck his 25th goal of the season as Division Four table-toppers Berks County Reserves earned a 3-1 home win against Maidenhead Magpies Reserves, writes Richard Ashton.
The striker – who has played only 12 games – grabbed a brace while Jonathan Gosnell was also on target for the Bracknell-based side.
Second-placed Burghfield FC remain just a point off top spot but with two games in hand after a 4-0 drubbing of Harchester Hawks.
In the Premier Division, Cookham Dean debutant Dan Hunt scored twice to help his side beat Newbury 3-2.
He slotted a fifth-minute penalty to put his side in front, but goals from Kye Franklin and Carl Jenner put the visitors 2-1 up just after the break.
However, Hunt levelled matters before Lee Hawkins sealed the victory for Cookham Dean.
AFC Aldermaston drew 2-2 with Hurst.
Jack Taylor was on the scoresheet for AFC Corinthians but it was not enough to prevent Maidenhead Magpies climbing to second in Division One following a crushing 6-1 victory.
Frilsham & Yattendon toppled Cookham Dean Reserves 2-1, while Winnersh Rangers drew 2-2 with Mortimer Reserves.
Division Two basement boys Sonning put in a brave performance but ultimately went down 3-2 at home to Barkham Athletic, despite Daniel Riches scoring twice for the hosts.
Thomas Day netted twice for Barkham with Matt Bacon also on target.
Christopher Davies bagged a brace and Arron Clarke and Liam Bushay also hit the target as Marlow United Reserves beat Wargrave 4-0, while Eldon Celtic went top following a 4-1 cruise against Goring United.
A Simon Bowman goal helped S.R.C.C. to a 1-0 victory against Finchampstead Reserves in Division Three, and Lukasz Hryniewicz scored four times as White Eagles thumped Twyford & Ruscombe 5-1. Dawid Nagoda scored the other goal for the hosts.
Woodley United A needed extra time but advanced in the Norfolkian Junior Cup with a 2-1 win against Hurley.
Tom Barratt’s 83rd-minute strike forced a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, before Alex Ray scored the winner.
In Division Five, league leaders TDC Knights hammered Taplow United A 7-1.
Kobby Duodu, Simeon Edwards and Christopher Potter all scored twice and Jason Agate completed the rout.
Hurst A thrashed Goring United Reserves 6-0, with an Asher Price hat-trick, two goals from Chris Tanner and a Reece Hawley strike doing the damage.
l PREMIER Division side Berks County have appointed Shay Boyd as their new manager in place of Oliver Knowles.
Boyd is a UEFA ‘B’ qualified coach and former semi-pro footballer who represented Ruislip Manor, Yeading, Southall and Harefield.
In 1994, in Boyd’s role as head of soccer at Adidas UK, he signed 16-year-old David Beckham into the company’s talent identification network.
Boyd said: “The club and players need to respond to the current league position by working hard and finding a way to play a style of football that fits the bill.
“The senior sides will soon benefit from a growing junior system but at this moment, it is critical we respond to the challenge that the rest of this season holds for the club”.
Co-chairman Richard Lloyd added he was delighted with the appointment.
