The visitors elected to bat but were in early trouble as a pair of wickets from Leo Methley reduced them to 28-2 in the fifth over.

Ben Caldera joined brother Sam in adding 36 for the third wicket before the former was bowled by Alex Masih, and he also dismissed Jay Hartard shortly after.

Wellington captain Christy Green then struck a decisive blow, removing Caldera for a well-crafted 42 from 28 balls, leaving Portsmouth 96-5.

Masih claimed his third victim during an excellent spell of 3-22 as Rory Prentice was caught by Adam Dewes, but the Grammar School looked like they might muster a reasonable score after reaching 124-6.

However, some inspired bowling from the returning Sam Curran (2-10 off four overs) saw the visitors collapse dramatically, falling to 130 all out in 19.3 overs.

Wellington made a solid start before Curran was knocked over by Prentice to leave the score 22-1.

Saagar Kanwar and Green followed swiftly after and the home side were on the ropes at 48-3 after eight overs.

However, opener Alex Shoff (70no from 54 balls) took control of the situation during a classy innings which included five 4s and three 6s.

He was aided by a run-a-ball 30 from Dewes – who struck four boundaries – and they helped the College to victory with seven balls to spare.

Wellington will play St Edward’s, Oxford, in the final at The Oratory School on Friday (May 15).

Wellington then continued their fine form by beating Bradfield College by 13 runs in a Twenty20 on Thursday.

Ben Curran (30) top scored for the College in a total of 136-9, which included a hat-trick for Tom Edwards.

However, Bradfield’s batting let them down, and with Curran taking 2-26, they ended on 123-6.

Ben Curran scored a fabulous 84 as Wellington thrashed Radley by 104 runs on Saturday.

Curran shared in an opening stand of 139 with Adam Dewes (49), and Sam Curran added a quickfire 28 from 20 balls to help the College to 242-8 in their 55 overs.

And Sam Curran (3-28) followed up with the ball in hand to help dismiss Radley for 138.
