It was a late show from the hosts, as Alex Jeffers fired home a rebound in added time, to secure victory for Sandhurst for the first time in 13 outings.

An impeccably observed minutes silence was held before the game, in memory of Betty Rogers, wife of Sandhurst Town president Ted Rogers.

With the game under way, it was the Fizzers who started strongest as Sean Delfosse went close with a free-kick.

Alton came back and forced a good save from Billy Wilson, who pushed a dangerous strike away for a corner, which was then cleared by the Sandhurst defence.

The visitors then took command of the game, dominating possession but failing to create any real chances against a well organised Fizzers side.

Henry Fox was just off target with a header for the visitors, whilst Aaron Richardson and Elliot Miles-Kirkland combined for the hosts, with the latter going close to opening the scoring.

Peter Millington-Lee had a chance with a fine drilled effort, but it remained goalless at the break after an entertaining first-half.

The second-half started in the same vein, with Jeffers going close for Sandhurst, before the visitors tested Wilson at the other end.

In the 60th minute, the deadlock was finally broken when Tony Joslin’s corner was perfectly met by Luke Burrows to give Sandhurst the lead.

A moment of controversy followed five minutes later when Joslin was brought down in the penalty area.

The referee pointed to the spot, but after consulting his linesman he changed the decision and awarded a free-kick for offside.

This gave the visitors a boost and they made the most of the lifeline when Luke Perkins cut inside from the right and curled a delightful effort past Wilson to level the scores in the 70th minute.

The Sandhurst of old would’ve crumbled at this point but Harkness’ side used their new found spirit to continue attacking and it almost paid instant dividends when Joslin’s shot thudded against the crossbar.

Jeffers then had a low shot saved before Joslin’s header went narrowly over the bar as the Fizzers pushed on looking for all three points.

Two minutes later and a diving header from Joslin was kept out, before the winner arrived with literally the last kick of the game to spark jubilant scenes amongst the Sandhurst Town faithful.

Conor Harlowe controlled a long clearance and raced into the penalty area, with his drive forcing Aaron Bufton to parry it into the path of Jeffers, who reacted quickest to fire the ball into the back of the net.

The referee blew the whistle to signal full time, and Sandhurst celebrated their first win in 13 games.

The Fizzers remain at the foot of Combined Counties Division One, but will be buoyed by their victory and will now be aiming to climb the table.

Sandhurst travel to Staines Lammas on Saturday (3pm), hoping to grab their second away victory of the season.
