The Moles were looking to bounce back from their first league defeat under Roger Herridge last week, and were on course to do so as they led 3-0 with under 30 minutes to go.

But a Dave Woozley red card was the catalyst for a fightback from the visitors, and three goals in 12 minutes late on ensured The Moles were denied victory.

Adam Dickens got Binfield off to the perfect start, firing home from close range after neat build up play from the home side resulted in Seb Bowerman pulling the ball back to him from the byline.

It remained that way until half-time, with both sides defending well in a tight encounter.

Just two minutes into the second-half Binfield doubled their lead, with Dickens grabbing his second of the game.

The in-form striker raced onto a through ball and finished first time, sliding the ball beneath the advancing keeper.

When Ian Davies converted a penalty to make it 3-0 with under half an hour to go, it looked like Binfield had provided the perfect response to their first league loss under Herridge.

Woozley was red carded three minutes later when he reacted to a late challenge and pushed his opponent, earning his marching orders which meant Binfield had to play the last 25 minutes with 10 men.

The Moles were coping well, and did not look under any sort of threat until Aaron Nash stroked the ball past Dan Weait to reduce the deficit in the 75th minute.

Within five minutes, the lead had been cut to just a goal when the visiting side scored from the spot, Jordan Fletcher beating Weait.

And the comeback was complete two minutes from time when a long range bullet from Nash beat Weait to rescue a dramatic draw for the visitors, and condemn Binfield to just a point.

Lightening nearly struck twice for Binfield on Tuesday night but they just about held on to beat Reading Town 3-2 in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

The Moles had blown a three-goal lead after being reduced to 10 men at home to Brimscombe and Thrupp on Saturday - and if hosts Town had scored one more late goal the same story would have been repeated at Scours Lane.

Herridge was able to pick a full-strength side for the first time since he took over as manager last month, and his side dominated the first 25 minutes.

However Reading nearly scored with their first shot of the game, when Moles’ goalkeeper Weait was forced to make a superb save from James Suarez’s free kick.

And Binfield took the lead just before the half hour when IDavies met an Alex Walton cross to nod past Nathan Silver in the Town goal.

The visitors started the second half in fine fettle and after Carl Withers and Dickens had both seen chances go begging, they doubled their lead through Woozley following a goal line scramble.

The game appeared safe for Binfield just a minute later when Dickens bagged his 10th goal in just 15 matches when he finished off Bowerman’s cross.

However within two minutes disaster struck for The Moles as Callum Whitty was given a second yellow card following a tangle with ex-Binfield striker Carl Davies.

Chances came and went at both ends and Silver was forced to make a fine save from Bowerman with five minutes remaining, before Town hit back with two late goals from Liam Ferdinand and Sam Bangura.

This time, though, Binfield held on to close the gap to third-placed Kidlington to just three points.

The Moles travel to Oxford City Nomads on Saturday (3pm) and host Ascot United in a mouth-watering derby next Monday (7.45pm).
