THE DEADLINE for objections to a controversial planning application has passed.

Plans have been put forward by Gladmans developers to develop 80 new dwellings along with a SANG in a woodland area just outside Wokingham town.

The development next to Sand Martins golf course has received 706 written comments, as well as a Facebook group objecting to the proposal with just shy of 700 members.

The land is adjacent to the Sand Martins course, which is located on Finchampstead Road, Wokingham.

Whilst 40 per cent of the dwellings are set to be listed as affordable, the plans have not gone down well with local residents.

Neil Willby, a local resident, was pivotal in getting 2,243 signatures on a petition against the development.

He said: “You’re going to give it everything you can, you’re going to give it as much energy as you can, you’re going to be as proactive as you can, you’re going to be as creative as you can, but at the end of the day it’s going to go in front of a planning committee.

“There’s a lot of wildlife in that field, there’s badgers, deer, foxes, and whatever these developers say, and how clever they might be, you can’t relocate nature, and once it’s gone, it’s gone, and then what are you going to do?”

The public consultation period ended on December 11, with the plans set to be taken before the planning committee.
