HORRIFIED customers had to restrain a mother in a busy supermarket who attacked and kicked a woman.

At around 5.40pm on Thursday, March 23 a 60-year-old woman was shopping in Tesco in the Meadows when a child nearly ran into her shopping trolley.

The victim made a remark suggesting she ‘would have been trouble’ had she bumped in to the child.

At this point a woman overheard the remark and asked if she was talking about her child, so the victim moved away to avoid an argument.

But moments later the victim saw the woman who had previously accused her of assaulting her child and was pushed in to a shelf and kicked repeatedly.

Members of the public had to pull away the woman from the victim who had sustained bruises to her arms.

Now Thames Valley Police have released CCTV images of a woman they believe has information about the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: “At around 5.40pm on Thursday the victim, a 60-year-old woman, was shopping in Tesco in the Meadows, Marshall Road, when she had to move her trolley out of the way of a child who nearly ran in to it.

“The victim then made a remark suggesting she would have been in trouble if she had bumped in to the child.

“A woman overheard the woman and asked if she was talking about her child. The victim moved away to avoid an argument however shortly afterwards the victim saw the woman who accused her of assaulting her child.

“The woman grabbed the victim’s arms and pushed her backwards in to a shelf then kicked her a few times before being pulled away by members of the public.

“The victim sustained bruising to her arms, which did not require medical treatment.

Investigating officer PC Alex Jarratt said he would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident in which a woman was assaulted while shopping.

He added: “At the time of the assault the store was busy and it would have been witnessed by other customers who pulled the woman away from the victim.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who recognises the woman shown in the CCTV image, as she may have important information about the incident.”
