THE sweet smell of success is in the air for a local chocolatier.

Mortimer Chocolate Company took on the industry’s big-boys and came out on top in the 2018 Quality Food Awards.

The family-run business was ‘highly commended’ by experts in the hot beverage category for its luscious salted caramel chocolate drink.

A range of products made by a host of manufacturers were subjected to a blind tasting exercise, with the Mortimer drink beating all of its rivals.

And Mortimer Chocolate Company managing director Adrian Smith believes it represents a huge victory for smaller businesses.

“It is great to beat such tough opposition as Aldi and Typhoo,” he said.

“We have a tiny budget, but we aim to make our drinks just how our customers like them and this award shows that we have done just that.”

Smith added: “It is our attention to the flavour of the drink and the quality of the cocoas that we use that makes our chocolates stand out.

“Our customers are always telling us how much they love our products and this award reinforces that.”
