A REGIONAL building company has made a healthy donation for a local scouts group to help them pay for urgent work on their premises.

The ninth Bracknell Scout Group received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes after being successfully chosen to become the company's 'community champion'.

The group's scout hut in Leppington, Birch Hill was in desperate need of repair and the group recently paid more than £7,500 for a replacement boiler and a new soakaway for the surface water.

A scout group spokesman, said: “Both the boiler and the old soakaway were around 20 years old, but it was clear they urgently needed replacing.

"We have been busy fundraising through a Christmas bazaar, monthly car washes and jumble sales two or three times a year so the support from Persimmon is a massive boost for us and we cannot thank them enough.”

The scout group offers youngsters aged from six to 14 years the chance to expand their horizons by experiencing outdoor activities and other learning opportunities to help them develop skills for the future.

Rachel Faulkner, sales director for Persimmon Homes Thames Valley, said: “The ninth Bracknell Scout Group is clearly a long-standing unit that offers a great service to local youngsters and we are delighted that we can help them keep their facilities up to date so that the group can continue to go from strength to strength in the future.
