Broomhall Recreation Ground in Sunningdale played host to a rip-roaring community BBQ on July 14, pulling in a massive crowd and raising a hefty £2000 for Sunningdale Pre-School.
Spearheaded by Christopher Ward alongside his persevering family, the event was an exceptional local hit, attracting remarkable support.
The warmhearted organiser, Mr Ward, shared his thoughts on the day: "I ran the community BBQ on Sunday the 14th of July at Broomhall recreation ground in Sunningdale, and I have to say the day was a great success all in all.
"We started the event at 12pm and soon after it got very busy with lots of people turning up to enjoy the day."
Ensconced amidst the laughter and chatter, Mr Ward directed the BBQ with his mother, Lynda, who was managing the vegetarian BBQ and the rolls.
His father John Ward, along with a benevolent local protege Junior, was overseeing the bouncy castles, contributing to the jovial atmosphere.
Elaborating the family's roles, Mr Ward commented: "My father John Ward was over at the bouncy castles keeping an eye and making sure everyone was having a good time on them.
"A local child by the name of Junior very kindly gave up his time to help my father on the day and between them did a fantastic job."
Hannah Ward, Mr Ward's wife, was on payment duty, dealing with transactions for the BBQ, raffle tickets, and bouncy castles.
Reflecting on the contributions, Mr Ward expressed his gratitude: "I would like to say a massive thank you to my family for helping make this event the success it was."
Several local businesses, such as Tesco Express Ascot high street, Tesco Express Sunninghill and Tesco Superstore Martin’s Heron, made notable donations, garnering heartfelt appreciation from Mr Ward.
He expressed admiration for the readiness with which the stores went "above and beyond to help me with this event".
The BBQ attracted a surge of local residents, as well as families from outside the locality, something Mr Ward found especially moving: "The park was packed with residents along with loads of families from outside the area that attended so that was amazing to see."
The event raised an impressive £2000, all of which was promptly donated to Sunningdale pre-school.
Through local camaraderie, culinary delights and playful entertainment, the community BBQ illustrated the strength of local spirit, as everyone united to create an unforgettable day.
