National Highways have responded after a planned road closure was previously changed.

A series of M4 closures are set to cause considerable disruption to drivers in the area.

National Highways will be carrying out repairs on the Burghfield Road Bridge including replacing the existing paint system and refurbishing the bridge bearings, to ensure it remains in a safe condition.

This will close the westbound and eastbound motorway between Junction 11 Reading and Junction 12 at Theale.

Carriageway closures will be in effect in both directions.

Despite previously stating that April 26 to 28 would see a full closure, the disruption went down to just during the night.

Considering the fact that the planned works were causing numerous concerns for residents who live nearby, it was thought that perhaps the closures had been modified to limit disruption. Read more here.

However, National Highways East have responded to say that the next lot of closures remain unchanged:

May

·       1st – 16th May - Westbound overnight full closures

·       17th – 20th May - Westbound full weekend closure (from 9pm Fri – 6am Mon)

·       20th – 23rd May - Westbound overnight full closures

·       28th – 31st May - Westbound overnight full closures

They said: "Drivers should follow the diversion route signed and allow extra time during their journeys:

"Westbound: signed diversions will be in place via M4 J11, onto A33, A4 and back on the M4 via J12

"We encountered a problem with the alternate route due to simultaneous construction work taking place over the weekend."
