A man has been banned from entering any Co-Op stores in Berkshire after over a dozen instances of shoplifting.

Michael Campion, aged 37, of Budges Road, Wokingham, was given a Criminal Behaviour Order, was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months, and ordered to complete a drug rehabilitation order.

Campion carried out a number of thefts at Co-Op stores in Wokingham between July and November last year.

During one of the incidents of theft, Campion assaulted a member of the public.

Campion has pleaded guilty to 13 counts of theft and one count of assault.

The Criminal Behaviour Order prevents Campion from entering any Co-Op store in Berkshire, entering Sainsbury’s Local store in Ashridge Road, Wokingham, or remaining in any shop when asked to leave by staff.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Paul Bentley said:  “Thames Valley Police does not tolerate retail crime.

“We are working with partners to tackle retail crime and identify offenders, who impact on businesses as well as cause fear to staff and members of the public.

“Criminal Behaviour Orders act as a deterrent to offenders, as it places restrictions upon them, and can help address the underlying issue which causes the offending in the first place.

“Wokingham Neighbourhood team continue to work with businesses and partners to keep Wokingham a safe place to live and shop.”

Thames Valley Police arrested and charged Campion with the offences before he appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on March 19.
