More grass verges in Bracknell housing estates could be converted into parking spaces under spending plans approved by council leaders.

Some £300,000 is to be spent on easing parking pressures in residential areas under the most strain. Guy Gillbe – the councillor in charge of roads – said this included ‘green verge conversion.’

Councillor Gillbe said calls for more parking are among ‘the top things we’re likely to hear’ from residents.

Streets where more parking spaces are set to be built include:

  • Beaumont Garden in Harmans Water
  • Underwood in Great Hollands
  • Lindenhill Road in Priestwood
  • Yardley in Great Hollands
  • Abbotsbury in Great Hollands
  • Naseby in Hanworth
  • Grantham Close in Owlsmoor, Sandhurst

The scheme comes after planning permission was granted to convert grass verges in some parts of Bracknell last year.

Two separate blocks of three parking spaces each were approved on grass verges on Holland Pines in Great Hollands Road in December last year.

Similar planning permission was granted for parking spaces on two grass verges on Latimer in Birch Hill last October.

Councillor Gillbe said the new spending included money towards a ‘green verge conversion programme,’ at a meeting of council leaders on Tuesday March 19. He said: “I’m sure this is welcome news to all our residents.”
