An incident at The Lexicon in Bracknell has led to a further clampdown on people riding e-scooters and bikes in the shopping centre.

Signs have appeared in The Lexicon ‘due to a recent accident,’ reminding visitors that the shopping centre is a pedestrian area. They order e-scooter riders and cyclists to ‘dismount without request'.

Lexicon general manager Rob Morris told the News that he couldn’t say what the accident involved. But he said management wants to work with police and Bracknell Forest Council to enforce rules banning e-scooters and cycling in the town centre.

Mr Morris said: “Riding scooters and bicycles in a designated pedestrianised area, will always pose a risk to visitors.

“While cycling in Bracknell town centre is contrary to the Bracknell Forest Council by-law and riding e-scooters in public is illegal, The Lexicon doesn't have any legal powers to enforce or punish this offence.”

He added: “We do have signs displayed prominently asking people not to ride their bicycles or scooters when in The Lexicon, and hope that this makes people think twice about endangering the general public.

“We are working closely with Thames Valley Police and Bracknell Forest Council to explore ways to more strongly enforce this policy.”
