Two men from Woodley have been arrested on suspicion of fraud offences after scammers attempted to trick an elderly woman into handing over money.
The woman received a cold-called with the caller saying her roof needed urgent work and then the scammers attempted to charge her a significant amount of money for work that had not been completed.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police has issued the following statement: "Our neighbourhood policing colleagues will be out giving face to face advice to those that don't have access to social media.
"If you are concerned about a crime in progress, please call us there and then so we can respond and stop offences.
"Descriptions of people involved and registrations of any vehicles are really useful. Our call takers will always signpost you to our partners in Trading Standards or Action Fraud if needed. There is a lot of fraud prevention advice available online too."
