A PLEA for action has come from neighbours 'sick' of noisy car meets taking over a Tesco car park in Sandhurst.

Videos of the rowdy car meets, taken by disgruntled nearby residents, show the 'nuisance and anti-social behaviour' that is happening at the site regularly.

It comes after a host of similar issues were previously reported at Sainsbury's in Birch Hill, prompting the supermarket giant to install cameras to deter drivers.

Bracknell Forest MP James Sunderland has called for urgent action from Tesco and Thames Valley Police after receiving numerous complaints from his constituents about the issue.

According to the MP, these car meets are happening on land owned by the supermarket giant.

MP Sunderland said: “I’ve spoken to Thames Valley Police, and they’ve said that the only way to resolve this is for Tesco’s carpark to put in ANPR cameras in the same way that was done in Sainsbury’s in Birch Hill.

“I am absolutely on the warpath when it comes to the nuisance anti-social car meets at the Meadows in Sandhurst. The residents there are sick of it.”

In 2022, Bracknell residents were forced to live through a similar situation at the Sainsbury’s carpark in Birch Hill where hundreds of cars used to meet on a weekly basis.

Following conversations with both Sainsbury’s and Thames Valley Police, ANPR cameras were installed to catch drivers attempting to enter the carpark after opening hours.

The installation of these cameras and an increased police presence prompted a complete crackdown on car meets and anti-social behaviour in the area.

James Sunderland, who assisted with the situation in Birch Hill in May 2022, said that he is now taking on a heavy involvement in the crackdown on car meets in Sandhurst.

He added: “What we need is a police presence, a zero tolerance approach to nuisance motorists and we need ANPR cameras installed down there.

“We are talking to Thames Valley Police. I have raised my concerns with the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner and he is on the case but what it needs now is a much more definitive effort.”

The MP told the News that he has contacted Tesco headquarters and is awaiting a response.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We’re aware there has been some anti-social behaviour at car gatherings in the car park of our Sandhurst Extra store.

"We are working with local partners to find the best way to tackle the problem, and we are exploring what additional measures we can put in place to deter this behaviour in future.”
