A man has been arrested in connection to an ongoing kidnapping investigation which saw a man forced into the boot of a car.

At around 7.30pm on Saturday, January 27, four men attacked a man in his twenties on an e-scooter in Martins Lane.

The group then tried to kidnap him by forcing him into the boot of their dark-coloured Audi saloon car.

A member of the public intervened, preventing the victim from being taken away.

The victim suffered minor bruising and swelling but did not require hospital treatment.

Following a police appeal, a 20-year-old man from London was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping on Monday, February 20. He has since been released on police bail.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Jonathan Greenlaw said: “We are continuing to investigate this concerning but targeted incident and have made an arrest.

“If you saw or know anything related to this incident, or you have any relevant footage, and you haven’t already contacted police, I would urge you to please do so as soon as possible.

“I would also encourage people to please continue to let police know of any concerns of criminal activity in the area.
