Bracknell Forest Council run primary schools are among the top five best in the borough results of the Key Stage 2 exams.

The Government has released the first primary school performance data since the COVID outbreak.

Alongside Ofsted results which are to resume later this month, these figures are some of the key markers to assess suitability when choosing a primary school for a child beginning their education.

The figures show how well the students performed in their exams last Summer and also reflect on the progress made throughout the primary school years.

The Key Stage 2 exams are taken by pupils in their final year to show their progression through their first stage of education.

The top performing school was Crowthorne Church of England Primary School, which is an Ofsted graded Outstanding school maintained by the local authority. 93 percent of their pupils meet the expected standard with 17 percent achieving at a higher standard.

Number two was St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Bracknell which was awarded ‘Good’ in their latest Ofsted inspection on March 3, 2022.

Overall, 89 percent of their key stage 2 pupils meet the standard expected in reading, writing and maths. Overall children made above average progress with 21 percent passing at higher levels.

The school is on track to becoming a top-performing Outstanding school.

Although not connected to the council, 85 percent of pupils at Great Hollands Primary School, which is an Academy located in Wordsworth in Bracknell met the expected standard.

Also, amongst the top five were Whitegrove Primary School and St Michael’s Church of England Primary School.

Overall the average SAT result for Bracknell Forest was two percentage points higher than the national average.

The exams are taken by final year primary school pupils.

A year six teacher at St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School said: "Their excellent results are a culmination of the hard work and dedication of all the staff, parents and pupils over the years.

"We are immensely proud of the children’s achievement, their self-motivation and determination. They worked incredibly hard, always eager to learn and wanting to be the very best they can be."

Cllr Roy Bailey, executive member for children, young people and learning, said: “Bracknell Forest councillors and colleagues within our education and learning team are delighted that outcomes at the end of key stage 2 are above national figures. We would like to thank all children, staff and families in our schools and academies, whose hard work and dedication has led to these results.

“We are incredibly proud of the achievements of our maintained schools. Each school or academy within Bracknell Forest has its own unique context.

“We also wish to celebrate the wider achievements of all schools in Bracknell Forest, in addition to these end of key stage results. Pupils in all year groups continue to achieve success on a daily basis; not only in the classrooms, but also on the sports fields, the drama studios, and out and about in our community.”
