A Reading dad has been cleared of manslaughter after a pubgoer died following an altercation.

Darren Makepeace, 38, of Wensley Road, Reading, was found not guilty of killing Lee Ringrose following a trial at Guildford Crown Court last month on the grounds of self-defence. 

The court heard how Mr Ringrose, 37, from Bracknell, was drinking at the Kings Arms pub on Bagshot High Street in Surrey when he was involved in an incident with Mr Makepeace.

Mr Ringrose was injured and died in hospital just under a month after an incident on Thursday, June 15, 2023. 

He was taken to hospital where he remained until he passed away on Thursday, July 6. 

On Thursday, December 21, Mr Makepeace was on trial at Guildford Crown Court where he was found not guilty of manslaughter by a unanimous verdict of the jury on the basis of self-defence.
