A well-respected Bracknell primary school has been praised by the educational watchdog, Ofsted, after being rated ‘Outstanding’ in their first inspection.

King’s Academy Oakwood, located on Chiltern View in Binfield, was visited by inspectors on November 7 and November 8.

After opening on September 1, 2019, this is the first Ofsted rating as part of the King’s Academies multi-academy trust.

The primary school caters for 210 children between the age of 4 and 11.

King's Academy Oakwood was found to provide a highly inclusive environment for pupils who appreciate the many extracurricular activities the school offers.

The lead inspector, Carl McCarthy said in the report: “Pupils feel safe and happy at this exceptional school. They are highly respectful towards adults. Pupils support each other and model exemplary behaviour.

“They take on roles such as ‘peer mediators’, who are trained to help resolve potential friendship issues in highly effective ways. Pupils enjoy and value roles that help them to build their confidence, such as school councillors and house captains.

During the visit, inspectors spoke to the pupils, teachers, and parents about their experiences at the school.

One pupil summed this up, saying: "We hear our friends’ voices and then take action to make the school better."

Whilst observing teachers and leaders during the visit, inspectors described them as having the highest ambition for the children in their care.

In the younger years, it was observed that staff paid ‘meticulous attention’ to details when implementing the curriculum so that it was personalised to the children’s needs.

The report said: “There is a rigorous approach to the curriculum that builds pupils’ knowledge and connects ideas across subjects into carefully woven tapestries of ideas.

"Resources are carefully adapted so that pupils with SEND achieve well. Staff have very secure subject knowledge and prioritise pupils’ vocabulary and language acquisition. Staff adapt lessons very effectively to ensure that disadvantaged pupils thrive in their learning.

“Staff check how well pupils understand carefully. They tailor lessons to ensure that pupils’ learning builds on what they know already. As a result, pupils achieve exceptionally well, including in their end of key stage tests.”

As the school if part of an academy, governors, and trustees are involved in the school in some way or another.

They were found to offer extraordinary support for the school and pupils that attend.

After speaking with the teachers and leaders within King’s Academy, the inspectors noted: “All staff are proud to work at the school. They feel that their workload and well-being are managed effectively. Staff report that they feel exceptionally well cared for. Parents are overwhelmingly supportive and appreciative.
