Shoppers at the Lexicon were evacuated from the area last night (23/11) after a fire alarm was activated.

The incident occurred around 5:30 pm in the evening according to members of the public attempting to enter and exit the shopping complex.

One person on social media said: “Just been told by my daughter that the Lexicon is being evacuated (she had just arrived there for work).”

The surrounding area of the town centre was also evacuated as a safety measure.

Gavin Vidler, deputy general manager at The Lexicon says;  “One of our retailer’s fire alarms was activated which meant we needed to evacuate the store and surrounding area as a safety measure.

“Everything was back to normal within 30 minutes once we had established that there was no risk to the public.”

It is currently not known which shop was responsible for the fire alarm.
