A mum of three has become an Ironman Triathlete after crossing the finish line at the gruelling competition in Portugal.

Following the triathlon in Wales six weeks ago where Ellie collapsed 50 miles into the bike race from heat exhaustion, the Bracknell woman flew to Portugal where she rose above her past challenges.

Ellie Gosling, who is also a charity fundraiser completed the challenge, which included a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile cycle ride and 26.2-mile run in just 10 hours and 56 minutes.

This placed her fourth in her age group and 37th female out of 169 finishers.

Ellie said: “I was hugely disappointed after not finishing Ironman Wales - who would have thought Heat Exhaustion would be an issue in Wales?!

“I wanted to put all her hours of training to use sooner rather than later.”

After letting her body recover for 10 days after Ironman Wales it was a turn of focus to Ironman Portugal on Saturday 21 October.

After weeks of training including 4km swims, 100 mile cycle rides and 20 mile runs she decided to hit the start line in Cascais, Portugal with the aim of getting to the finish line.

The Mum started to prepare for the triathlon at the beginning of 2023 and juggles her training with her work at Edgbarrow School and with the First Day’s Children Charity.

She also runs her own events business, Barnes Fitness, and a junior triathlon club, Reading Rascals.

Ellie has expressed her gratitude to all the people who sponsored her attempts at Ironman Wales.

Having not completed the race, she said that she felt she owed it to them to fulfill her part of the deal and is now proud to call herself a triathlete.

Through the triathlons, the Bracknell woman is raising money for First Days Children’s Charity in Wokingham which is very close to her heart.

A Just Giving page has been set up to assist members of the public who want to donate.

Within the fundraising page, Ellie said: I've always been drawn to the world of triathlons and remember marshalling at a feed station at the Challenge Henley in 2012, where James from Spokes of Bagshot and other Tri2O members, including Callum Hughes, took part in the long distance triathlon.

“It's been a dream of mine to do one myself and have always said I would done one when the girls started school - they are now in year 2!!”
