The heartbroken family of a four-year-old boy has launched an appeal after a ‘freak incident’ left him with life-changing brain injuries.

Marlon, 4, was at a family function when he collapsed and was subsequently rushed to A&E and then transferred to Great Ormand Street.

After being diagnosed with a stroke, the community has rallied around the family.

Kaleigh-Jane Scott, Marlon’s Aunt who set up the GoFundMe on behalf of the family said: “In a single moment, life as we knew it changed. Marlon has always been a healthy, happy, active 4-year-old boy. He recently started in Reception and was enjoying life with his family and friends.

“There was no warning; one minute, he was happily playing with his cousins and the next, he was being rushed to A&E and later transferred to Great Ormand Street Hospital for specialist care under GOSH consultation.”

Marlon has been left paralysed down the right side of his body whilst also losing the ability to speak.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with extensive rehabilitation costs.

The GoFundMe explains: "Funding for Marlon's recovery has been cleared for the first 12 weeks, but beyond this, Georgia and Ben have been advised by GOSH to fundraise to support these extensive costs of long-term rehabilitation privately.

“So many people care for Marlon and want to help him but don't know how, and this is where we can do all we can to help this incredible family and one courageous little boy.

“Over the coming months, our family and friends will be fundraising in any way we can to offer financial support, hope, and donations to the amazing organisations that already have and will be involved in his long road to recovery.”

The community rallied around the family and raised over £15,000 in 24 hours.

On October 13, Kaleigh-Jane commented: “To say we are blown away is truly an understatement.

“We are totally in awe of the compassion and kindness you have all shown for our family, and the out-pour of love has brought light in a very difficult time.

“We still have lots planned to help raise funds for the long road ahead, we certainly didn't expect to be here so soon, so have increased our target to keep momentum for our precious boy, and the incredible organisations Great Ormand Street and The Children's Trust.”
