Wokingham Borough Council is promoting the NHS Healthy Start campaign where new mothers can receive help for buying fruit, vegetables, and milk.
Community members can apply to the scheme If they are receiving a qualifying benefit and are more than 10 weeks pregnant.
They can also apply if they have parental responsibility for at least one child under the age of 4.
If eligible, they will receive a Healthy Start card with money pre-paid onto it. The card can be used in a number of shops to buy healthy produce for the family.
The money on the card can only be spent on fresh, frozen, and tinned fruit or vegetables. It can also be spent on fresh, dried, and tinned pulses.
Along with food, the card can also be used for fresh milk or cow’s milk-based infant formula.
