Berkshire bus companies have reassured passengers after the ‘alarming’ bedbug outbreak in Paris sparked fears London could be next.

Fears over a cross-border infestation of bedbugs were sparked in the UK after videos surfaced on social media of the small, blood-sucking insects in the Parisian metro and apartments.

One of the concerns is bedbugs spreading rampant in the London underground and bus network, with Mayor Sadiq Khan reportedly taking steps to prevent this.

Now Reading Buses and Thames Valley Buses have released a joint statement to reassure Berkshire passengers are safe from the insects, which mainly hide in bed frames, mattresses, clothing and furniture.

A spokesperson for Reading Buses and Thames Valley Buses said: “There has been no evidence of any issues with this in the UK, let alone on our services.

"Our buses are normally checked and cleaned every evening, which would address any issues that may arise.”
