An eight-year-old Bracknell lad, who gives up his time to visit residents at an Ascot care home, took on a hike of the UK’s highest peak following the passing of his ‘favorite resident’.

Theo Barrett, 8, completed the challenge of climbing to the top of Ben Nevis on Thursday, August 31 alongside the support from his Mum, Danni, in aid of Dementia UK.

After a series of devastating losses, Theo found that the fundraising hike has helped him deal with his grief whilst also helping to make a difference for people with dementia.

Residents at the Ascot Grange Care Home receive visits from Theo where his Mum works as a Dementia Care Assistant.

She said that he spends his time making memories, playing games, listening, talking and laughing with the homes’ residents in what they call ‘Theo Therapy’.

Danni expressed the pride she feels for her son after reaching the summit.

She said: “Theo is absolutely amazing and such a kind sweet loving little boy who’s been through so much, but still is always so loving and happy.

“He’s been smashing mountains since he was 3 years old, completing Brecon Beacons circular, Snowdon four times (one night hike) Gyders and Y Garn circular twice, Scafell Pike and few others.

“I couldn’t be anymore proud and overwhelmed.”

As they reached the summit of Ben Nevis, the family left pictures and messages in memory of his dad – who he lost three and a half years ago - and Tony who he said blessed them with the gorgeous weather on the Scottish climb.

Theo said that he thinks it’s amazing how much money he has raised, and he hopes it helps people with dementia because they are all so lovely.

After Tony’s (the resident) wife told Theo that they completed the climb on their first date, he thought that it would be special to commemorate his passing by climbing the for charity.

He has expressed his gratitude and thanks to everyone who has supported him on his journey.

Danni Barrett set up a Go Fund Me page where people have been able to leave messages of support to the Bracknell lad.

Eleanor Boyce commented: “Thank you for everything you do to make the people of Ascot Grange's lives better -- the world needs a lot more people like you, Theo! Hope you enjoy this adventure!”

Another supporter described him as a ‘very special young man with a big heart.’
