A PAEDOPHILE who was once jailed for attempted murder has been jailed a second time for raping a seven-year-old girl.

Attila Dombi, of Saffron Road, Bracknell, was found guilty after a trial at Reading Crown Court in June of several sex crimes against a child.

He was jailed for 18 years on Friday, August 8 by Judge Sarah Campbell with an extended licence period of five years.

Prior to the proceedings, the 51-year-old admitted to the court that he took three indecent photographs of her. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing indecent images of children.

However, he denied the charges of rape, assault and causing a child to look at sexual activity claiming the young girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was lying.

After a week-long trial, Dombi was found guilty of causing a child to watch him masturbate, two counts of assault, one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of causing a child to look at pornography.

When interviewed by police about why he had taken the indecent photographs, Dombi said he was ‘curious’.

“It’s something else, something different from normal sex, something unusual,” he said.

Dombi’s devices possessed 22 Category A images, eight Category B images and 37 Category C images. The ages of the female children ranged from three to nine.

Police also found on his devices that there were also web searches for indecent images of children.

On Friday (August 8), the court heard that Dombi had previously received a 22-year prison sentence for attempted murder in 1994 in Spain.

He was driving a stolen car in Barcelona when he was stopped by police. He fired three shots from an automatic handgun, hitting an officer, causing him to spend six months in hospital where he almost died from his injuries.

Defending Dombi, his barrister Nadia Chbat said his charges for child sex crimes are the ‘first convictions of this nature’ for Dombi.

However, the defendant still maintains that he did not commit the offences which were taken to trial and claims the girl’s mother ‘encouraged’ the convictions.

Sentencing Dombi, Judge Campbell said: “You continue to deny you have a sexual interest in children. [The girl’s mother] described how [the girl] is still unable to sleep without a night light on.

“Due to your lack of empathy and remorse, I am quite satisfied you pose a high risk to children.”
