787 illegal vapes have been seized across West Berkshire and Bracknell as part of the Trading Education Campaign by Trading Standards.

This follows the three-month partial closure order placed on four stores in Reading town centre.

Vaping products have seen a surge in popularity, particularly with younger people over the last year. Many shops across the UK have been found selling vapes to underage children containing an excess of nicotine.

Shops that do not meet requirements will have their products seized and given potential partial closures depending on the circumstance.

An officer at Thames Valley Police in Reading said: “Some shops selling illegal vapes are often linked to anti-social behaviour.

“In Reading the four stores were given a partial closure order because there were young people who were causing a public nuisance in the Union Street area and affecting surrounding businesses.

“We are keeping an eye on the selling of illegal vapes so that there is less of a chance of anti-social behaviour.”

Throughout the 24 stores searched in West Berkshire, Wokingham and Bracknell, two shops in each district were found to be selling illegal vapes.

The law says that disposable vapes should not contain quantities of more than 2ml, must not contain nicotine in excess of 20mg/ml and must be labelled with a UK or EU address.
