A popular recycling hub has been axed at a supermarket chain in Winnersh.

Sainsbury’s introduced recycling points for their customers in around 275 of their supermarkets carparks across the country to provide recycling for paper and card, mixed glass, batteries and textiles.

Upon visiting the recycling centre at the Winnersh Sainsbury’s Superstore on King Street Lane, residents were shocked to find that the hub has been closed to the public.

Barriers closed off the area where the banks used to stand, and signs alerted shoppers to the situation.

One sign said: “Recycling bay is now closed. Please use alternative recycling centres at Asda and Morrisons. Alternatively, Reading household waste recycling centre RG2 0RP.

Another alerted residents that the glass recycling bay was closed and to ‘find alternative collection point’.

The News have contacted Sainsbury’s for a comment regarding the closure.
