An environmentally focuses scheme has expanded to include Martins Heron.

Choosing to walk, cycle or take public transport in Martins Heron has just got more rewarding for residents.

Launched last year, the Eco Rewards app aims at influencing residents to make healthier and more environmentally friendly decisions.

It works through QR codes that are scattered around Bracknell.

Binfield, Crowthorne, Sandhurst and Warfield are already involved in the scheme, with QR codes now up and running in Martins Heron.

It means that those who choose to walk or cycle to local amenities, such as the shops, parks, schools or stations, will be rewarded for choosing active travel routes - with a variety of discounts, prizes and cash-back rewards up for grabs.

To take part residents can download the Eco Rewards app and scan the new Eco Rewards QR codes on their commute and view journeys with high rewards.

Executive member for planning and transport, Cllr Guy Gillbe, said: “We are thrilled to have expanded the much-loved Eco Rewards scheme and hope it helps encourage those travelling through Martins Heron to take a more active commute to the local station.

“Leaving the car at home and taking your bike or walking is better for the mind and body, as well as helping to reduce carbon emissions in the borough.

“Anyone can sign up to the Eco Rewards scheme and QR codes can be found all across Bracknell Forest. So, when you venture into town, or for a country walk, make sure to scan the QR codes you find on the app.”

The Eco Rewards programme has taken off since its launch in 2020, with users logging over 430,000 green miles, with over £2,500 worth of prizes being won.

The expansion of the successful Eco-Rewards programme comes after the council secured funding through South Western Railway’s Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF).

David Wilby, South Western Railway’s regional development manager, added: “South Western Railway is delighted to have been able to help Bracknell Forest Council bring this project to life through a grant from our Customer and Communities Improvement Fund."
