AN ASCOT woman is “very honoured and proud” to be named in the King’s Birthday Honours list.

Teresa Pearson BEM was one of the many talented people announced in the King’s Birthday Honours list.

Teresa, Ascot station manager, was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Teresa was South Western Railway’s lead manager at Windsor & Eton Riverside station for The Queen’s State Funeral, heading up a team of 40 SWR colleagues and 30 agency staff on the day.

Speaking about the honour, Teresa says: “I am walking around grinning like a Cheshire cat, I feel very honoured and very proud.

“But also, this is not just about me, I carry this for my team and my colleagues because without them I would not be me.

“I may work for SWR, but the Queen and the Royal Family were my customers, and she deserved the best I could give.”

South Western Railway has praised its team member, Teresa, for creating a welcoming environment at the station for crowds during the period of Lying-in-State and the day of the funeral.

This included decorating the station with flower baskets, memorial banners and arranging for British Transport Police officers to hang a large Union Flag at the station, as well as replanting station flower beds at night as she felt that that task was part of her personal responsibilities.

A spokesperson from South Western Railway said Teresa led the operation with “pride, professionalism and appropriate respect throughout.”

After the funeral, Teresa received a message from the Royal Household which thanked her for her dedication and service to Her Late Majesty.
