MOTORISTS can expect three weeks of disruption as a new pedestrian crossing is being installed on a busy Wokingham road.

Molly Millars Lane, in Wokingham, will have roadworks and partial road closure in place from Sunday, June 18, while the council installs a new pedestrian crossing.

An initial road closure between Oaklands Drive and Ashville Way, starting at 5pm on Sunday, June 18 and finishing at 6am on June 19, to avoid inconveniencing those planning to visit Lidl on that day.

The remainder of the works will then continue under two-way traffic lights for three weeks, between 9.30am and 3.30pm to minimise disruption during peak travelling times.

Plans for a toucan crossing came after Wokingham Borough Council received requests from residents and councillors.

“The crossing will be put in this month following investigations and a needs assessment by our highways traffic management team where it was agreed that this location met the necessary requirements for a toucan crossing”, a spokesperson from Wokingham Borough Council said.

The plans will allow pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross Molly Millars Lane and “supports the council’s aim to improve active travel routes around the borough for pedestrians and cyclists”, the council added.

The new pedestrian crossing will provide a safer crossing for Lidl, Ashville Way, customers.
