A new cycle path could be built along South Road, connecting Crowthorne with Great Hollands, in plans being considered by the council.

The plan is to resurface and widen the footpath that currently runs alongside the road. It would run from Nine Mile Ride at its southern end to West Road at the northern end.

It will then connect to an existing foot and cycle path that runs alongside the east perimeter of the Downshire Golf course, from West Road to Easthampsted Park School

The new path would be a shared footway and cycleway, and is being proposed by Bracknell Forest Council’s own Planning, Place and Regeneration department.

It will also be partly funded by private research firm the Transport Research Laboratory, which has a large office block at the Nine Mile Ride end of South Road. It will connect the Transport Research Laboratory workplace with facilities and homes in Easthampstead.

The plans, set to be considered by Bracknell Forest Council’s planning committee on Thursday, June 15, have had no objections.

Chris Whelan of Carnoustie, near the proposed path, wrote to the council to support the plan. He said: “I cycle part of this route several times a week.

“At times, parked vehicles on South Road can make this hazardous. Any improvement would be very welcome so I support this proposal 100%.”
