THE plans for two months of roadworks on busy Bracknell road has received backlash as residents say it will cause more “carnage”.

London Road, Bracknell, will be down to one lane due to “unavoidable utility work” until August 6.

City Fibre will start work on Thursday, June 8, on the dual carriageway section from the Met Office roundabout to the Running Horse roundabout. The road will have lane closures in place.

The work will run from Running Horse roundabout to Fernbank Road junction in small sections, “to optimise traffic flow”, under 24-hour temporary traffic signals.

Residents were quick to share their opinions about the internet company as one person commented: “I can't believe your still letting them work on your roads. They should be fixing the carnage they have left behind them before doing any more work.”

Another resident agreed, saying: “After the mess they made of our road I hope someone is going to manage them. Can't believe a 6 mm ride in a pavement is acceptable and crushing a curb and denying it was them when I watched it happen.”

This second phase is planned between June 13 and August 6, which will cause travel disruption for just less than two months.

According to Bracknell Forest Council, the work is “unavoidable”.

CityFibre’s Partnership Manager for Bracknell, Neil Madle, defends the roadworks: “We are investing £20m to transform the digital capabilities of Bracknell. The works on London Road are part of this major undertaking and we are working closely with our build partner and the local authority to complete these as efficiently as possible.

“We understand that infrastructure works can cause some disruption which is why we do everything in our power to inform the community well ahead of any work starting.

“We encourage residents to contact us directly via the contact form on our website regarding any specific concerns so we can thoroughly investigate them. We appreciate the support we’ve received to date and ask the community to bear with us while we deliver this important project.”

Bracknell Forest Council are reassuring residents that "the road will not be completely closed at any point" as 24-hour signals will be in place.
