Commuters across Bracknell Forest have been up-in-arms this week as road works on Priory Road have caused ‘chaos’.

From May 22 to May 24, multi-way signals and temporary traffic lights were put in place whilst work was carried out by Affinity Water.

Although the company stated that there would be ‘little disruption to road users’, residents have hit-out about the ‘shambolic’ state of the road during the evening rush hour.

Nigel Lawson Dick, a resident on London Road said: “It’s just disgraceful. London Road between Heatherwood Roundabout and the Mercedes dealership was at a complete standstill on Monday evening which meant that there was absolute mayhem.

“London Road is always busy anyway but the temporary lights and works caused half a mile of queuing traffic during the rush hour and a 35 minute delay to get through.

“Everyone is so frustrated and from my experience with the water board there is complete inefficiency.”

Another resident commented online after using the road. He said: "Congratulations to the person who thought it would be a good idea to install temporary traffic lights at the foresters junction on the London Road and then make them 4 way with no sign of any roadworks 45 minutes from Heatherwood to Martins Heron. Obviously doesn’t live in Bracknell!!!!"

Affinity Water notified road users on the one.network website that works would take place between 11:06am on Monday, May 22 and 11:59pm on Wednesday, May 24.

They said: “We are currently carrying out essential maintenance in your area, this is on-going work to improve our service to you – usually there will be little disruption to road users during these types of works which can include stop tap replacements, meter fits, leak detection and fixes among others – please scroll down to view the specific work being carried out.”

We have contacted Affinity Water regarding the disruption caused.
