LEARN about the importance of bees through storytelling, nature trails and craft workshops during Bee Aware week.

The Lexicon has an educational May Half Term planned with its Bee Aware Week running from Saturday, May 27 to Sunday, June 4.

Running all week is a free to enter Bee Trail where visitors can search for flowers and bee facts hidden around the town centre for a chance to win a Bee hamper.

Outdoor nature and garden specialists, Little Muddy Boots, will be running craft and storytelling sessions for children aged 1 to 8 years old in Princess Square from Monday, May 29 to Friday June 2, 2023, for £4 per session.

Children will make their own mini bee hotel and seed bee bombs to take home. There are limited spaces, so booking is advised.

On Wednesday, May 31 and Friday, June 2, Jenny Bailey, author of Phoebe the Bee, will be holding bookable story telling sessions.

The sessions will be held in Fenwick, Waterstones and at Bracknell Library at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm.

Sow Grow Sounds from CBBC Blue Peter will be bringing together the sowing of wildflower seeds, education, music and games in Union Square from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, June 3 and 11am to 5pm on Sunday, June 4. This free activity is suitable for all the family.

Head of marketing at The Lexicon, Sue Boor, said: “Bees and other pollinators are so important to us all.  Without them we wouldn’t have forests, wildflowers, fruit trees and many of our food crops.

“With forest and green open spaces making up more than 40% of Bracknell borough’s landscape, protecting and understanding more about bees, is even more relevant to our local community.

“We hope that our fun and educational Bee Aware Week will inspire people to plant a few extra seeds this year to help our bees.”
