Frustrated members of Bracknell's David Lloyd gym say they have 'had enough' after being targeted by thieves with thousands of pounds worth of tools taken.

Gymgoers, who pay up to £200 for membership at the exclusive leisure complex on Nine Mile Road, has seen multiple vehicle break-ins within their grounds over the years, the Bracknell News can report.

Despite the secure carpark, there have been a number of incidents of theft in recent months with tools taken from workmen and women who leave their vehicles there while they go to work out.

According to members, these attacks have been getting more frequent with several happening in March alone.

Tim Finch, a builder from Bracknell, said: “It is just becoming ridiculous now. We are hardworking builders simply wanting to enjoy some time at the gym.

“With the amount of money we spend on monthly fees, the least you expect is to be able to park securely without having someone break into your vehicle.

“They have targeted multiple vans and every time it happens, they break the door with tools to get inside. We have asked the club to install CCTV cameras or employ a part time security guard, but nothing has been done.”

According to an FOI request, there have been rising reports of tool thefts across the UK with 13,677 cases of thefts from vehicles reported between March 2021 and March 2022. This resulted in a total value of tools stolen of £21,401,534.88.

Some of these thefts have been reported to Thames Valley Police and are under investigation.

Tim added: “We just feel that we aren’t be listened to. It is an ongoing issue and each time our tools are stolen it affects our work as these must be replaced.”

A spokesperson from David Lloyd Clubs said “We take security at our clubs very seriously and were concerned to hear of the vehicle break ins at the club’s car park. We are aware that this has also happened elsewhere in the local area and are working closely with the police whilst they conduct their investigations.

"We are also putting enhanced security measures in place as a precaution and are advising members to avoid bringing vans with valuable tools inside to the club if at all possible."
