Neighbours in Bracknell gathered to get rid of their old electrical items at a recent recycling event.

Each year, Bracknell Forest Council holds recycling events where neighbours can dispose of unwanted electrical goods, ranging from entertainment systems such as DVD and CD Players to kettles, toasters, and more.

The events are held at the Bracknell Leisure Centre cat park each Spring and Autumn, with the most recent one happening this month.

Bob Clyde, 71, who travelled from his home in Winkfield to attend the event, said: “The weather turned out a bit milder after the snow and rain and people came in their droves to bring in all their collected items.

“The event was advertised on bin hangers two weeks before advising what items to collect and bring.

“Hordes of people brought their out dated expired toasters, kettles, lighting, hi fis, hair dryers, old mobiles, chargers, DIY tools and more.

“At least 12 large containers were filled, at one point they had to go back to get some more empty ones as they were filling up so quick!”

Neighbours were also able to dispose of clothes, shoes and handbags as well.

The event was led by councillor Dorothy Hayes MBE (Conservative, Ascot) executive member for the environment.

Mr Clyde commented: “She said every body is playing their vital part by reusing and recycling all this valuable material in helping sustainability and less waste.

“She was on the go all morning helping residents sort the items.

“She was well pleased and thanked all residents for coming.”

Those taking part were rewarded 500 points on their  Bracknell Forest Council E+ Card, which is a membership card for the leisure centre and Downshire Golf Complex, and provides discounts for participating local shops and Coral Reef Waterworld.

The event was held from 9.30am-12.30pm on Saturday, March 11, with the next set for September.
